My father has the same issue with his Silverado and B&W Companion and just keeps a folding 2-step ladder in the bed to pull the handle as well as to help him get in and out of the bed to get firewood out. I recommend picking up a really compact ladder like the Telesteps Folding Step Stool # TE97FR to help reach the handle.
